The Santiago Metro (Metro de Santiago) is the second largest subway system in Latin America. Its construction started in 1969 and it currently consists of 5 lines of mostly underground stations. It covers the urban area of the Metropolitan Region, and several of its stations acts as transportations hubs with other transport systems, such as buses and trains.
